FLOOD RECOVERY UPDATE—
Chicago Subdivision South District to reopen tonight

INDIANAPOLIS—Initial recovery work to restore service throughout the Indiana Rail Road system following recent record flooding will be complete tonight. Service was restored to the South District of the Indianapolis Subdivision yesterday evening at 6:00pm EST, including service to the Ameren Generating Station at Newton, Ill. Chicago Subdivision mainline at Elnora will be reopened by 10:00pm EST tonight.

A summary of current status by subdivsion follows:

INDIANAPOLIS SUBDIVISION NORTH DISTRICT (Indianapolis–Linton, Ind.)

All track is in service with some slow orders in place. Additional spot work is planned to address a handful of locations with drainage and/or instability issues.

INDIANAPOLIS SUBDIVISION SOUTH DISTRICT (Linton, Ind.–Newton, Ill.)

All mainline track was reopened by yesterday at 6:00pm EST. Service to Ameren’s Newton Generating Station and Canadian National Railway Interchange at Newton has resumed. Local switching operations have continued without interruption; interchange service is expected to return to normal cycles. Slow orders over some portions of the line will remain in effect until additional surfacing work can be completed.

CHICAGO SUBDIVISION NORTH DISTRICT (Chicago via Terre Haute, Ind.–Linton, Ind.)

Vigo County (Includes the stations of Terre Haute and Fayette): Crews will continue surfacing work to restore normal track speeds south of Spring Hill Junction. Some additional track work is planned at Fayette near the Duke Energy complex. The Riley Spur is open, and all remaining Chicago Subdivision track south of Terre Haute is in service as far south as milepost 220, near Elnora.

CHICAGO SUBDIVISION SOUTH DISTRICT (Linton, Ind.–Louisville, Ky. via Bedford, Ind.)

Davies County (Includes the stations of Odon and Elnora): Work is in the final stages at this hour to repair some 1,600 feet of track that was washed out and shifted up to 15 feet off center by flood waters. The line will reopen tonight at 10:00pm EST, restoring service to and from Louisville, Ky. Some slow orders may remain in effect until additional surfacing work can be performed.

Martin and Lawrence Counties (Includes the stations of Burns City, Williams and Bedford): Mainline track is open and ready for traffic following reopening of the line at Elnora.
